Understanding blood glucose
Blood glucose is the concentration of glucose in the blood. It rises after meals and falls as insulin moves glucose into cells. When this regulation fails and glucose stays high, it is diabetes.
Between normal and diabetes lies prediabetes — usually without symptoms, yet the stage where lifestyle changes matter most.
CriteriaGlucose criteria
| Fasting glucose | HbA1c | 2-h OGTT (75 g) | |
|---|---|---|---|

| Prediabetes | 100–125 mg/dL | 5.7–6.4% | 140–199 mg/dL |
| Diabetes | ≥126 mg/dL | ≥6.5% | ≥200 mg/dL |
Diabetes is usually confirmed by repeat testing on a different day. Please consult a medical professional.
