Resistant Maltodextrin
A water-soluble dietary fibre recognised for post-meal blood glucose, triglyceride, and bowel movement functionality
Resistant maltodextrin is a water-soluble dietary fibre made mainly from corn starch. Most of it is not absorbed in the small intestine, so it is low in calories. It dissolves easily in water and has almost no taste or thickness.
It is an ingredient for health functional foods whose standards and specifications are officially announced by Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). Three functionalities are recognised: it “may help suppress the rise in blood glucose after meals,” “may help improve blood triglyceride levels,” and “may help support regular bowel movements.”
| Category | Water-soluble dietary fibre |
|---|---|
| Raw material | Mainly corn starch |
| MFDS functionality | Suppresses the rise in blood glucose after meals · improves blood triglyceride levels · supports regular bowel movements (ingredient with MFDS-announced standards) |
| Key evidence | Meta-analysis of 37 randomised controlled trials — about 20% lower post-meal blood glucose response when 6 g was taken in a drink |
Partner company ONDAM BIO has turned this ingredient, together with the Cornus extract complex, into the consumer liquid product ‘SANBIDAM Premium’.
